Prof. Benjamin Murphy, Ph.D.Borage oil has specific contraindications for certain groups. It is safe for many but dangerous for others. Knowing these contraindications avoids unwanted reactions. Whether this is good for you depends on your health status. Safety comes before good.
Pregnant women absolutely must not take borage oil under any circumstances. The ingredients in this oil appear to stimulate contractions of the uterus and may cause premature labor. Nursing mothers should also be cautious about using borage oil, as it may cause toxicity in infants. Pediatricians have not determined what is safe for nursing infants. Safer substitutes should be taken during these periods.
