The main ingredient of beneficial clove oil is eugenol, which supplies effective relief of dental pain by acting on the TRPV1 nerve channels and creating a temporary numbness of the pain. Proper dilution should always be observed to avoid irritation of the gum tissues. The numbing phenomenon typically occurs within 2 to 5 minutes. The duration of the relief is approximately 2-3 hours, comparable to the product benzocaine.

Preparation

  • Use 100% pure clove essential oil
  • Select carrier oil like coconut or olive oil
  • Prepare cotton swabs and small container

Dilution Process

  • Mix 1 drop clove oil with 1 teaspoon carrier oil
  • Stir thoroughly for even distribution
  • Test dilution on skin first if sensitive

Application Technique

  • Dip cotton swab in mixture
  • Apply directly to affected tooth surface
  • Avoid contact with gums and tongue

Precautions are necessary for safe use. Do not apply pure oil directly to teeth or gums. The application should be used no more than 2 to 3 times daily for no longer than 3 days. If allowed to be continued indefinitely, such applications might obscure the fact that serious dental lesions exist, which need the attention of your dentist. Consult your dentist if the pain, etc., does not subside within 72 hours.

Different methods can be applied with clove oil treatment. Cold compresses help with swelling through outside application. Saltwater rinses help to cleanse the inside of the mouth between treatments. These methods can provide comfort without interaction. These remedies are, for the most part, suggested to my clients who are awaiting dental work.

Store your clove oil mixture properly. Use a dark glass bottle and keep it out of the sunlight. Discard any unused mixture after one week, as this will decrease potency and prevent bacterial growth. Proper storage will allow it to be ready for sudden toothaches.
