Their body become efficient at regulating the stress response. Overtrained individuals experience high levels of cortisol, even with improvements in fitness. Balancing intensity creates long-term progress while avoiding burnout.

It is possible to track your individual experience through simple indicators. Sound sleep after a workout is quality recovery. Ongoing fatigue indicates an excessive level of intensity. You can know when to dial back. For most individuals, there would be two intense sessions a week and one moderate session. Pay attention to your body's feedback.
